Dental/Oral Health Care

The oral hygiene of your pet is very important. Prevention of dental problems is much easier than treatment. Over 70% of dogs and cats over 4 years old have some degree of dental disease.

Plaque is formed from a combination of food, saliva and bacteria, this then hardens to form tartar. This in turn then pushes back the gums to reveal the delicate roots of the teeth. If not removed, the bacteria in tartar will also seriously damage the tooth below, leading to infection, pain, inability to eat properly and loss of teeth. This infection gets into the blood and can lead to irreparable damage to the kidneys, liver and heart.

Daily oral care is essential. This can be a combination of brushing, diet and dental products, such as toys, chews and a water additive.

Our practice offers a free nurse clinic to look at your pet’s teeth and gums, give advice on how to keep your pet’s teeth in tip top condition, lessening the need for dental operations to clean or remove damaged teeth.

Advice will include how to brush teeth, which products to use and which diet is best for your pet’s teeth and lifestage.

If you are unsure about the health of your pet’s mouth, this clinics is for you.
